A great way for youth to get involved is to join one of the four youth groups sponsored by HCHY: VOYCES (Montello Middle School), Change of Heart (Montello High School), PSST or Pioneer Safe School Team (Westfield Middle and High School).
Youth members, along with the Youth Mobilizer, meet regularly to build awareness of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug uses and discourage high risk behaviors, attend youth workshops and conferences, take on leadership roles and implement a social norms campaign in their school. Youth groups are open to anyone in grades 7th through 12th. The only requirements to belong to the group are that members may not be under the influence or alcohol or other drugs, come to the meetings with an open mind and be respectful of other members, and attend at least 3 meetings each semester and 2 events each school year.
For more information on the school youth groups or to join contact Lauren Calnin, Youth Mobilizer for Montello and Westfield School Districts.
NY4C is a youth group for kids aged 11-15 in the Neshkoro area that focuses on prevention. Contact Jamie Flores, Neshkoro Neighborhood Liaison, for more information on joining this group.
