Strengthening Families

Strengthening Families Program is for families with children ages 10-14. The whole family, even younger children, enjoy a family dinner and a night out, once a week for seven weeks. Parents and youth learn top-notch information and participate in enjoyable learning activities, while younger children are in child care.

Benefits of this program are many – helps prevent youth substance abuse, brings families closer together, give families the tools that really work to get along and enjoy each other as a family. People love Strengthening Families – you will too!

Parent Information Exchange

Parent Information Exchange (PIE) groups will help connect parents within a community via face-to-face and online communications. PIE strives for a parent-centered approach, which means that the parents and professionals associated with PIE do not assume they know what is best for each individual parent. Rather, opportunities, resources and information will be offered based on parents’ interests and concerns. There is freedom for each community to make a PIE that fits their needs as parents.

Parent connections are intended to be helpful and enjoyable moments for mutual support, assistance, information, education, and resources. When parents are connected, families do better and communities benefit.

We are currently reaching out to parents of children of all ages who are interested in participating in a PIE in their local community. We have parents in place to help launch these efforts in Neshkoro, Montello, Westfield and Endeavor. If you'd like to connect with parents in your community or if you're interested in learning more about PIE, please contact Sue Allen, Marquette County UW-Extension Family Living Educator, at (608) 297-3139 or susan.allen@ces.uwex.edu.
